Skill 1
I value most highly in life:
- Curiosity
- Open-mindedness
- Honesty
Why I value these traits
- I believe that with curiosity comes many other benefits. Those who are not curious are unlikely to question their world. I find that very sad.
- Open-mindedness links to 1. in the sense that I believe that one should always be open to new experiences, new viewpoints. No ones got this whole thing figured out, but thinking you do is a sure-fire way of being wrong about it.
- Honesty is the last one because the other 2 values hinge on it. Honesty to others because it’s the right thing, but also to ones self. It’s not easy.
A value I want to see more of in myself is restraint. It applies to just me; it is exclusive. The value would benefit me because it would allow me to achieve more if I can have better self control over things like diet, exercise, work, social life.
Self restraint is a difficult one to underpin with a deeper value, but I would say honesty is a big part of it. Often a way to break rules is to kind of “bargain” with the rule. “Oh i’ll only have a little bit of ___”, “Oh just a little bit more won’t hurt”, “Oh well I might as well finish it, but don’t worry, tomorrow I wont have any.” etc. Self honesty is not present here.
It may help me more as a consumer than a designer, at least when it comes to sustainability – not ordering fast fashion or something like that by justifying it with dishonest thoughts. As for design, better self control to work hard to better achieve long term goals, and to always be ambitious and only settle for the best.
Skill 2
My scores:
Theorist: 8
Activist: 15
Reflector: 12
Pragmatist: 10
While I agree that I am probably a mixed bag of the 4 very constraining categories, I am not happy with this particular mixing. While some questions were insightful, many of the questions would have benefited from extra context, since my answers would probably vary depending on what the situation entailed. “Look before you leap” is such a vague way to phrase a question, especially when I am not told what I’m leaping into. I think it has told me I’m an activist simply because I get along with creative people quite well, and that seems to mean i’m an activist, according to this test – even though I personally like to go through logical processes to achieve a creative end goals.
Skill 3

Bad design (left)
Purely for aesthetics, the magic mouse has 0 thought of ergonomics, nor practicality as it’s charging port is on the bottom. It costs 4x as much as the other computer mouse, and works worse.
Good design (right)
The Logitech Pop mouse is much better design. It is small, with thought given to ergonomics (although not perfect). It has silent clicks, long battery life, and was significantly less expensive than it’s apple equivalent.
Skill 4
Why do I want to design? At risk of sounding arrogant, I think there is a lot I can bring to the world of design that no one else can. A unique blend of my own personal experiences coming forth into the world in the form of design. I constantly see ideas for design where there is seemingly very little. The actual process of creating is fun, but not nearly as much as the idea forming, or holding the final product. I enjoy designing, and I want to go far to see what happens, that is my why.
Skill 5
I’m not quite sure what the brief wants of me here, but here are all of the posters i’ve made this project thus far:
